Privileges & Validity
Under EASA regulations, the Radiotelephony endorsement is not a standalone license, but an endorsement on your pilot license. The privileges include:
• Operating aviation radio equipment and conducting radio communications according to ICAO/EASA standards.
• Using aeronautical frequencies for VFR or IFR flights, within the scope of your pilot license and language proficiency.
The RT endorsement itself does not expire, but, your Language Proficiency Endorsement (LPE) must be valid:
• Level 4: valid for 4 years
• Level 5: valid for 6 years
• Level 6: valid for life
Entry requirements
• Minimum age: usually 16 to start training (17 for a PPL).
• English proficiency: sufficient to understand and apply RT phraseology and procedures.
• Basic flight training: usually combined with PPL training.
• IFR RT training: you should hold or be in training for an Instrument Rating (IR)
