PPL Orientation Course Lelystad Airport – Diamond DA20

Considering a full PPL training, but want a realistic first impression? Our PPL Orientation Course offers much more than a single trial flight. Through several flight lessons in a row, you’ll experience key elements from multiple phases of the official PPL practical training.

Each lesson includes a professional briefing and debriefing, with all flights and progress recorded in the syllabus. During the course, you’ll log the flight lessons from the left seat, flying with a certified instructor. These hours are officially logged and count toward the required 45 hours for the PPL.

Location

One of our flight schools is located at Lelystad Airport, the busiest general aviation airport in the Netherlands. There’s plenty of activity to see and do throughout the day. From the flight school, you have a fantastic view of the runway and the hustle and bustle of the airport.

Theory

You’ll start with an explanation about flying. In this briefing, the instructor will answer important questions about what we’ll be doing during your trial lesson. Are you coming to the flight school with your partner, friend, and/or family member? Of course, they’re welcome to join you. This way, you’ll all know what you’ll experience in the air. The theory section lasts approximately 15 minutes.

Practical

After the theory session, you’ll go to the aircraft with your instructor, where we’ll check if it’s ready for takeoff. Then you’ll start up and drive to the runway. You’ll hear the instructor and the control tower through your headphones. The instructor will request permission from the control tower to depart. And then it’s time! Takeoff. Under the watchful eye of your instructor, you can fly everything yourself except the final leg of the landing. If you’d like, the instructor will take over if you want to look outside, take photos, or film.
You decide how long the practical session lasts. The minimum is 60 minutes.

Diamond DA-20

The Diamond DA-20 is a two-seater aircraft. Only the student and instructor will fly. If you are taller than 1.80m or weigh more than 90 kg, we can see if we can reserve another aircraft for you, for an additional fee. You can bring your own GoPro or film yourself.

This aircraft can only be flown during daylight hours, meaning: it gets dark earlier in winter and longer in summer.
If the weather forecast falls outside of flyable limits of wind and visibility, we will, of course, reschedule.

Please call the day before your lesson to check if the weather is suitable for flying. You will receive the phone number with your reservation.

Lessons can be given in Dutch and English.

Proof of identification is required; please bring your ID card or passport. Access to the airport is not permitted without valid identification.
