What can you expect?

Your night flight experience begins in the early evening and is designed to both inspire and educate. You'll receive a personalized pre-flight briefing and then take to the skies with a certified instructor for a hands-on introduction to flying at night

Briefing

We begin with a comprehensive briefing covering key differences in night operations, including human factors, visual illusions, lighting systems, navigation, and safety procedures. You'll get an overview of the aircraft’s lighting setup and how to prepare for night departures and arrivals. Even if you’re new to night flying, everything will be explained clearly to ensure you feel confident before stepping into the aircraft.

Flight

Once briefed, you’ll take off into the night sky for an unforgettable flight. Under the supervision of a flight instructor, you’ll fly for about an hour, practicing straight and level flight, turns, climbs, and approaches — all in nighttime conditions. You’ll be in control for most of the flight, giving you a real sense of what night flying is like as a licensed pilot.

What can you expect?

This flight is more than just a ride. It’s a fully guided session where you’ll get a taste of real-world instrument flying. Expect to be briefed thoroughly on IFR procedures and then experience controlled flight without external visual references — all while being supported by a qualified IFR instructor.

Briefing

Before we take off, you’ll receive an in-depth pre-flight briefing focused on the essentials of instrument flying. Topics include: • Attitude instrument flying and scan technique • IFR navigation and procedures • Use of radio aids (e.g. VOR, ILS, GPS) • Basic approach and departure concepts • Communication in controlled airspace • Whether you’re new to the concept or already familiar, the session is tailored to your background.

Flight

During the flight, you’ll wear a view-limiting device (foggles or visor) to simulate instrument conditions. Under instruction, you'll practice maintaining altitude, heading, and speed using only cockpit instruments. You’ll also be introduced to basic procedures such as intercepting radials, timed turns, and even a simulated instrument approach. This is a hands-on, skill-building experience — and yes, you’ll be in control for most of the flight.

Introductory lesson

4. Instrument Flight

Ever wondered what it’s like to fly solely by reference to instruments — navigating through clouds, above weather, and in controlled airspace?

The Instrument Flight Introductory Lesson gives you a firsthand look into the precision, focus, and technology that define the world of IFR flying.

Perfect for PPL(A) holders considering their Instrument Rating, or for any pilot curious about what’s beyond VFR, this experience offers a unique and challenging insight into the next level of pilot proficiency.
